Review: Vega One All-In-One Shakes

I've written before about my food sensitivities and how discovering them has helped me make better choices about what I eat and how it affects me.  I have long known that I am lactose intolerant, and so I have often struggled to find protein shakes that do not contain milk products.

I had read that some people with lactose intolerance can manage Muscle Milk but I tried that and felt so bloated after a couple days I thought something was wrong with me!  I stopped drinking them and immediately felt better so I knew that option was out.

I had found Orgain Organic Nutrition Plant Based Vegan protein shakes, pre-made and easy to transport.  While not exactly delicious, they were very smooth and creamy for plant based protein.  I find plant based protein powders and drinks can be a little on the chalky side. While this shake definitely didn't make me feel as bloated as Muscle Milk, I was still struggling.  Taking a closer look at the ingredients, it contains chia protein, and alas, chia is one of the foods to which I am sensitive.  I regretted having to cut out these shakes as the pre-made convenience was so nice to bring to work.

I had in the past tried the Vega One Organic All-In-One vegan, plant based protein powder but had held off due to the cost.  The powder can be a little chalky, so I like to mix it with almond milk (especially dark chocolate almond milk!), which gives it a smoother and creamier texture, but adding in the cost of the almond milk increased the cost of each serving.  However, after the other shake alternatives failed me, I eagerly came back to the Vega One.

There is nothing in this shake that upsets me. It is not only a protein shake but also nutritional, containing veggie based protein and vitamins and minerals.  Each serving contains 20 grams of protein, which I like to start my day.  Mixed with a small amount of dark chocolate almond milk (or cut half and half with regular unsweetened almond milk and dark chocolate) this shake is yummy and I always look forward to drinking it.  Each scoop also has 8 grams of fiber and only 1 gram of sugar.

I decided the cost was worth the commitment, especially in my struggles to find something that didn't destroy me on the inside, I added it to my Amazon Subscribe and Save.  It automatically ships to me each month on the 7th.  I actually have 2 tubs of it ship, as one is not enough to get through the month.  This allows me to get a small discount on Amazon, and I never run out because it arrives at my door before I have to think about it.

It is a bit pricey but if you suffer from digestive issues or food sensitivities, I have found it easy on the stomach and worth the cost.  I have been using it for several months and I would definitely recommend it as a breakfast replacement or general protein shake.
